With companies cancelling their Christmas parties, it was a relief to see Social & Personal's editor, PJ Gibbons, was holding out against the recession by launching his mag's 50 Most Invited List in Café en Seine.

PJ told me, "You have to show people a good time. It's times like this people need cheering up."

People like grumpy Bill Cullen, who has lately been seen giving out yards to contestants on The Apprentice, and who attended with partner Jackie Lavin. Actress Rachel Kavanagh topped the list.

?DIAMONDS are everybody's best friend and so, to celebrate the launch of Tiffany & Co at Brown Thomas, the jewellers hosted an exclusive Christmas-themed cocktail party at Dublin's Merrion Hotel.

Guests included Nigel Blow, CEO of Brown Thomas, fashion designers Louise Kennedy and Helen Cody and novelist Edna O'Brien.

?Dublin photographer Kate Horgan has created a unique exhibition of portraits of the key figures of the Beat scene, paying homage to founders of the Irish music industry such as Henry McCullough (Wings, Joe Cocker Band), Eric Bell (Van Morrison, Thin Lizzy) and Paul Brady.

The exhibition opens with a night of live Beat music on Thursday at The Cobblestone, Smithfield, Dublin 7.
