AN INTERNAL garda investigation has been launched after €1,800 was stolen from a locked drawer at Store Street garda station.
The Sunday Tribune understands the money, raised by officers at the station for a collective holiday fund, was stolen in recent weeks.
The sum of cash was being kept in the superintendent's office under lock and key.
However, two weeks ago someone entered the office, broke into the drawer and stole the cash.
Senior gardaí are extremely angry at what happened. Officers hope the person responsible for the theft will return the money.
Enquiries are underway as to who could have had access to the superintendent's office during the time period when the cash was stolen.
It is the second incident at Store Street garda station that has raised eyebrows recently.
The Sunday Tribune recently revealed that gardaí at Store Street sent a highly sensitive intelligence file to a Dublin photocopying shop.
The file, which detailed the membership of one of the country's most dangerous gangs, was compromised when it was sent to Reads print and design store in?Dublin.
The file was seen by somebody in the shop who immediately informed a gang member that he featured prominently in it.
We here about investigations being launched but we rarely here about their outcomes.
