Hossam Hassan, the coach of the Egyptian national football team, has stated that he considers the recent altercation with a Dallas police officer settled. This incident occurred at the team’s hotel in Dallas, where Hassan and team director Ibrahim Hassan were involved in a physical confrontation with law enforcement.
Footage surfaced on Thursday, just a day before Egypt’s match against Australia in the World Cup round of 32. The video depicted both Hassan and Ibrahim Hassan engaged in a dispute with a police officer, which apparently stemmed from a player trying to take a photo with a young fan in the hotel lobby.
Initially, the officer approached Hossam Hassan, but the situation escalated into a shoving match when he interacted with Ibrahim Hassan, who appeared frustrated by the officer’s interference.
In response to the incident, the Dallas police released a statement indicating that their officers were acting on a request from hotel security regarding an individual without proper event credentials trying to access restricted areas. The police noted that the matter was resolved on-site, and they later met with Egyptian representatives to address their concerns.
“We are really happy to be here at this tournament and we are satisfied with the security personnel that are accompanying us,” Hossam Hassan conveyed through a translator. “I would like to point to the high-level organization we have with us and the level of security we have with us.”
Hassan, who has the distinction of being the first individual to both play and coach for Egypt in a World Cup, celebrated his team’s historic knockout victory by waving a Palestinian flag on the pitch. In an impassioned post-game interview, he stated, “My heart and soul are with them,”
Yahia Qalash, the former head of Egypt’s Journalists’ Union, remarked on Hassan’s gesture, saying, “It was the most significant scene,” On Friday, Hassan dedicated the game to the “It was a telling scene in an exceptional moment.” Egyptian and Palestinian people.
Regarding the display of the Palestinian flag, FIFA confirmed that it is permissible at the World Cup, emphasizing that flags representing all 211 FIFA member associations are allowed during tournaments. A spokesperson indicated that there were no plans for any disciplinary action against Hassan.
