Jarell Quansah Suspended for Two Matches Following Red Card Against Mexico

Jarell Quansah handed two-match ban by Fifa for sending off against Mexico

Jarell Quansah has received a two-match suspension from FIFA after receiving a red card during England’s recent last-16 match against Mexico on Sunday.

The defender was sent off following a VAR review of a sliding tackle on Jesus Gallardo, which FIFA has classified as serious foul play. This decision aligns with Article 14 of their code of conduct, resulting in the suspension.

England considered the possibility of appealing Quansah’s dismissal, particularly given FIFA’s controversial choice to lift Folarin Balogun’s one-match ban after the striker’s red card in the USA’s victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina. Balogun is now eligible for Saturday’s quarter-final against Norway in Miami. However, Quansah will miss not only that match but also the potential semi-final against either Argentina or Switzerland, should England advance.

England faces a challenging situation at right-back, with Reece James uncertain due to ongoing injury concerns. Ezri Konsa is likely to shift from his centre-back position to fill in for the upcoming match against Norway.
