I WAS struck by Rachel Andrews' sturdy defence last Sunday of Galway's Club Outstageous . . . "a venue for artistic and self expression" (sic). To have done otherwise would have run against the grain of popular orthodoxy.

But I was astonished when she then went on to state that instead of worrying about performances that went beyond the boundaries of good taste, we should concern ourselves with our teenagers' sexual behaviour, even in public, which is resulting in an increase in sexually transmitted diseases.

Is Andrews seriously suggesting that she can't see any possible connection between the one and the other?
