Being deliberately oblique with a generic name like 'Girls' and titling their record Album is loaded with hipster irony from this San Franciscan band, but perhaps they think they're more smart than they really are. Despite solid songwriting throughout, there are few complexities here, and although occasionally it rises above average, all their rough, lo-fi sound does is barely mask the fact that the original ideas aren't really there. The songs amble along pleasantly, but the blatant nods to/borrowings from the Beach Boys and Elvis Costello throughout grate.
