Los Campesinos!

Romance Is Boring

Wichita

4/5

I didn't see this coming. Cardiff collective Los Campesinos! have previously erred on the side of twee and irritating, but the hyperactivity of their early releases is only half the story. They're now a band who can switch from dubstep-influenced downtempo to Spector-esque overkill in a half-second, and are bursting with too many ideas. Singer-lyricist Tom crams Count Basie covers, vodka stolen from the opera and crucifixes into the first verse, and such vivid imagery persists.
