Full Skirt - Cinch the waist

A nipped-in waist and flowing skirt is such a timeless silhouette for women which, thanks to Marc Jacobs and Prada, is right back on the money for this season. Look for a preppy style skirt with added length and a fuller shape with a belt. Set off with a structured jacket or shift top in a luxurious fabric such as this one in textured wool at Diffusion.

Maxi Skirt - Take to the floor

Floor-sweeping maxi dresses and skirts have really come into their own this winter and it's easy to understand their popularity. Worn with a stripey top and a piece of jewellery, as pictured, they are classy enough for the office and elegant enough for a ladies' lunch. Dress up with a smart jacket and heels and you're good to party.

Midi Skirt - Functional Flirty

The stand-out detail on this A-line midi skirt by Celine is the thigh-high slit – revealing, yet demure enough for 9-5. The trick to doing mid-calf is to keep it ladylike and prim but not without adding your own twist on sexy. Keep those heels high and break out the opaques!

Skater Skirt - Wheel sexy

This new-season-fresh skirt length looks really cute and sexy either dressed up with a party top and heels or worn with a sophisticated tailored jacket, thick tights and your favourite winter booties. For work you might want to go with a longer just-above-the-knee length but for going out, it's fun to flash a bit of leg - bare if you dare.
