Right now your skin is probably in need of a great exfoliator and it doesn't come much better than Bobbi Brown's Buffing Grains for Face. The magic ingredient here is the Japanese adzuki bean. You add the grains to a little water and gently apply to the skin, which is left feeling smooth and looking radiant. €35 from BT and Arnotts.
This map-adorned tote bag might be from purveyors of young, hipster cool, Urban Outfitters, but it reminds us of the long-gone glory days of travel when it was all an adventure, airports were glamorous places and flying was so exciting, with not one massive security/baggage allowance aggravation.
€60 from Urbanoutfitters.co.uk
Traditionally, in January, the last thing you want to encounter is anything glitzy. But it doesn't mean that sartorially speaking, your next few weeks have to be dreary and functional. Far from it because the future is actually looking shockingly bright. Blazer, €47; top €40; trousers €40; shoes €87.50, all from River Island. It's life affirming just looking at it.
Going to the flicks becomes much more of an event with Film Fatale, a new bi-monthly film event taking place in Dublin's Sugar Club, 8 Lower Leeson St, next month. It's a celebration of old Hollywood glamour and the first film of the season is the Billy Wilder classic Some Like It Hot. The audience is invited to dress up vintage-style, there's a themed after party and even themed cocktails for the all Sugar Kane, Daphne and Josephine lookalikes. It takes place 5 February at 8pm. Tickets €13.50.
It's shockingly early in such a poverty-ridden month and far too cold to be swooning over a pair of lime green, five-inch suede mules with a satin ankle strap. But then again, you can't decide the whens and hows of falling in love – it just happens. Eva mules by Diane Von Furstenburg, €260 at net-a-porter.
Choosing a suitable greeting card can be as difficult as the selection of the present to go with it – you often have to resort to some awful jokey one making reference to how ancient the recipient is or beer goggles. We suggest stocking up on these brilliant 'Beast Greeting' cards from Nofixeabode.ie. They come in four animal designs and are blank so suitable for every occasion. €3 for set of four.
Despite the ever increasing numbers of people bringing their lunch into work, finding suitably chic containers to transport your couscous salad isn't as easy as you think unless you go down the straightforward Tupperware route. So too with flasks for soup, which are usually industrial looking. The new Halsa steel vacuum flasks from Ikea are the lovely exception and are only €4.99 each.
