It is planned to hold a Eucharistic Congress in Ireland in June 2012. I respectfully suggest that this be postponed.
The Catholic church in its current mood can hardly do justice to an Irish-led international celebration of the Eucharist. We are reeling from the effects of numerous damaging reports; the shortage of priests will soon reach catastrophic proportions; our churches are gradually emptying; our patience is fast reaching breaking point.
Better to spend the money and planning time saved on organising a representative, nationwide forum where our many problems could be addressed.
And I mean representative, of all types of members and all shades of opinion in our church.
If this was successful, then, renewed and revitalised, we could joyfully lead the Catholic world in celebrating the Eucharist.

Dont know about your Church Noel, but the Catholic Church where I'm from is in robust good health. Large congregations ; the Church at the hub of everything good going on in the community ; young/dynamic orthodox Priests, loyal to good Pope Benedict. Your parish could copy our example, Noel. Navan, Co. Meath. Best wishes.
