Eamon Gilmore sets the bar high with his aim for Labour to be the largest single party in Dáil Eireann. This is a conservative country with a conservative (to the point of stodgy) population, but an angry and very confused one. The current government dithers its way towards an unknown destination. The Taoiseach reflects the opacity of his vacuum cabinet by wallowing deeper and deeper into mumbling mists of incomprehensibility and incredibility. Does anybody actually listen to him anymore?
The people are several steps ahead of their present official leaders. Could it be that your readers, as they contemplate the abyss, might decide that Eamon Gilmore, in whom they already have massive personal confidence, might well be the man to lead us out of this mess?
