I was delighted to read the latest research findings from poverty charity Elizabeth Finn Care which reveal that 81% of people in Ireland have good relationships with their neighbours.
With politicians and the media saying society is broken and heading in the wrong direction I found it comforting to read that in fact 69% of people in Ireland say they would turn to their neighbour if they had a problem, such as their car breaking down or if they needed a lift to the doctors.
Having good neighbours can be really beneficial to your wellbeing and happiness, especially for society's most vulnerable citizens. Whether it is simply having someone next door to say hello to each day, or knowing a neighbour is there to help in an emergency, it can be a real comfort.
I would urge everyone to befriend their neighbours and in particular look out for elderly and disabled people on their street who may struggle to get out to the shops or may simply be lonely and welcome a friendly face to talk to.
