AN IRISH priest, who was kidnapped in the Philippines, returned to the country yesterday for the first time since his release.

Fr Michael Sinnott flew into Manila on Friday night. He said he was delighted to be back in the country despite his ordeal, when he was taken captive by armed gunmen on 11 October.

He said: "It's very nice to be back and I am looking forward to going back to my work in Pagadan City."
