POLICE in the UK have not been able to talk to the parents of a baby boy left in the porch of a Carlow cathedral (above) because they have not returned to their home in Nottinghamshire. Gardaí in Carlow renewed their appeal yesterday for the parents of the baby to come forward.

The eight-month-old child was discovered at the Cathedral of the Assumption at around 2.20pm on Friday. His name and address was left beside him in a note. According to a witness, the boy's parents were crying as they left.

The child is understood to be in good health and has been placed in the care of the HSE. Anyone aware of the couple's identity is asked to contact gardaí in confidence.
