We continue to fail at the Eurovision because we have no songs. Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones once said: "It's not the song it's the singer the matters." Well it looks as if old Mick was wrong, because the Irish have crashed out too many times with half-assed compositions not knowing that something is remiss. We have won where we had good songs that had feeling and were dynamic, not the sterile and vapid rubbish we have come up with in recent years. Our performance in the Eurovision is indicative of our political performance in recent years – we have no talent and no heart.
