THE wife of an Irishman gunned down in the US is selling the last of her family's property in a bid to move to Ireland. The trial of the man accused of the murder of her husband faces further delays.

Krista Clem, the wife of Kerryman John O'Sullivan who was shot dead by his neighbour in California during a row last year, said her children's futures now belonged in Ireland.

"It's so heartbreaking to listen to the kids cry 'daddy, come back daddy' so I have to get back to Ireland because they need family around them," she said.

"It's a better place for them to be with everything that is going on over here."

O'Sullivan emigrated to the US in the 1980s and had two children, Tessie (2) and Michael Séamus (4), with Clem whom he married in 2006. He also had two stepchildren, Lydia (8) and Jacob (15).

The trial of Ken Zimmerman, which was due to begin last week, has been delayed again due to two ongoing legal disputes.

The first, which centres on a contested defence application to inspect the family home, is due to go before the Supreme Court for ruling, which could lead to further delays. Another hearing later this month will consider a possible conflict of interest involving a defence lawyer and a witness.

Clem and her children were evicted from the family home at the beginning of April due to a bank foreclosure following O'Sullivan's death.

She said it was now her priority to move her family to Valentia Island, Co Kerry, where her husband was from, and where she hoped they could settle, at least temporarily, in a caravan.

"Everything that I have that is marketable I have for sale. The cars, a pool table, it's all for sale," she said.

"John's family are absolutely lovely; I talk to them often and they are very supportive of us coming over," she said.
