THE TRIAL of Kieron 'The Wolf' Ducie and his ex-girlfriend, who are accused of being connected to the drug-related death of model Katy French, begins on Tuesday at Navan District Court.
Ducie (40) of Lambertstown Manor, Kilmessan, Co Meath and Ann Corcoran (29) of Tolka Road, Clonliffe Road, Dublin 3, face the same two charges. The first charge alleges that on a date and time unknown between 1 and 2 December 2007 at the Statoil service station at Bracetown, Clonee, Co Meath, they conspired with persons not before the court to possess cocaine for the purpose of supply.
The second alleges that on the same dates and times at Lambertstown Manor, Kilmessan, they intentionally or recklessly engaged in conduct, namely the supply of cocaine to French and failure to get medical assistance in a timely fashion, which created a substantial risk of death or harm. Russell Memery (25), from Yellow Clay Manor, Navan, has already been convicted for supplying the model with cocaine.
Meanwhile, one of the Bebo memorial websites dedicated to the memory of French has again been hit with abusive messages.
The investigation into French's death was led by Supt Michael Devine and up to 20 officers worked for several months to establish the model's last movements. Some branded the massive probe, which included input from the National Drugs Unit, as "appalling and disproportionate".
"I am quite shocked by the garda response to her death compared to their response to the hundreds of other young people who've died from taking drugs over the past few years," Fr Peter McVerry, who works with homeless people and drug-users in Dublin's city centre, previously told the Sunday Tribune.
"Because someone has celebrity status a lot of attention and effort is being put into pursuing whoever supplied her with drugs. But the garda reaction to someone who dies from a heroin overdose and is found lying dead on the street is completely different – there is a total lack of interest in pursuing that."
