The fact that we as a country are finding it impossible to service our debts because of high interest rates in the bond markets is an indictment of the failure of this Fianna Fáil-led government to deliver good governance.
One clear example of this is the relationship between high-profile developers, such as Johnny Ronan and Richard Barrett. The lucrative deal between the state and a company controlled by both men for the controversial National Convention Centre means the taxpayer will hand over €633,000 a week to their company for the next five years.
In all countries the poorest pay a far higher percentage of indirect (stealth) tax than either the national average or the highest 10% income group.
Now we know who is paying to keep developers living in the luxury that they have become accustomed to, and to cap it all we are even responsible for their colossal debts through Nama.
