Home Affairs - Father and son killed in house fire

GARDAÍ are investigating the death of a father and son following a house fire in Co Clare yesterday morning. The two men, who were named locally as James Quinn in his 60s and James Jnr (30, above), died after the blaze engulfed their farmhouse home at Kiltacky More near the village of Boston at about 7.15am. Five units of the fire brigade responded and the bodies were removed to the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Limerick.

Home Affairs - Crane used at triple death crash site

A CRANE was used by emergency services yesterday to remove a truck from on top of a car following a fatal collision in Co Tipperary.

The bodies of three men were trapped inside the vehicle following the crash which occurred near Cashel, Co Tipperary, shortly before 11pm on Friday. It is believed the men were originally from Romania and had been living here for some time.

Gardaí were yesterday attempting to establish the cause of the accident which appeared to be a head-on collision.

Home Affairs - Search continues for missing fisherman

RESCUE teams were continuing their search for a missing fisherman off the Cork coast yesterday. The man, who had not been named yesterday, is from Crosshaven and had been fishing for lobster last Thursday morning when it is believed his boat capsized at Ringabella Bay.

A team of naval divers were drafted into the search which was being coordinated by officers aboard the LE Niamh.

Home Affairs - Garda chief visits scene of explosion

THE garda commissioner Martin Callinan has visited Henry Street garda station in Limerick after two men were hospitalised following a boiler explosion there on Friday.

The station remained closed this weekend as garda teams as well as personnel from the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) and the Office of Public Works (OPW) continued their investigations.
