Full marks to Shane Coleman for his column on Mary Harney (News, 23 January).
It's refreshing to find a commentator who can see past the last lurid headline and appreciate the courage, commitment and integrity of our outgoing health minister.
It has always seemed to me that her detractors, over the years, have largely been individuals with a vested interest or those who insist that there is a simple solution to every problem.
And no, I am not now, nor have I ever been, associated in any way with Mary Harney, the PDs, or indeed any other political grouping.

This woman Harney is a disgrace. She was unable to put a simple plan in place to secure the elderly a hospital bed during the flu crisis, for about 3 months of the year. Lets not forget we are a population equal to that of Manchester UK. Well I can guarantee that in Manchester up to 500 people were not on trolleys during the flu crisis or the severe weather conditions. The Minister for Health in the UK would be sacked, the hospital trust executive would be sacked, & the bed manager would go.
What Harney was doing in a British Commonwealth Country on ST Patrick's Day puzzles me. This FF bunch making snide remarks about Gerry Adams but FF very grateful for the UK, Australia, Canada, & New Zealand, all British Commonwealth countries to give jobs to our youth. Harney, & I have no vested interest, was a disaster during her tenure.
