The dictionary definition of the word 'republic' is as follows:

Republic (a.) A state in which the sovereign power resides in the whole body of the people, and is exercised by representatives elected by them; a commonwealth.

As Fianna Fáil has managed to cede our sovereign power to determine our finances to the unelected representatives of the European Central Bank and International Monetary Fund, I find it abhorrent that it still describes itself as "the republican party".

Unfortunately, political parties fall outside the remit of the advertising standards authority.
