A MOUNTAIN rescue team was dispatched yesterday morning to the aid of a 61-year-old woman who got into difficulties after injuring her leg. The woman had been spending the day in the Maamturk Mountains in Connemara when she got into trouble. It is understood that she suffered injuries to her lower leg and the Galway Mountain Rescue Team was dispatched to assist her.
The woman is described as being in a stable condition by medical staff treating her at University Hospital Galway.
THE Dublin Rape Crisis Centre appealed to people to be vigilant over the bank holiday weekend with an increase in sexual assaults during holiday periods.
The centre also advised that attacks have become more violent than ever and that most victims are the targets of somebody they know.
Chief Executive Ellen O' Malley-Dunlop said an increasing number of people have been reporting attacks.
Campaigners in Sligo, demanding the retention of cancer services at Sligo General Hospital, yesterday vowed to continue their actions in the aftermath of a protest on Friday night.
They are opposed to plans to transfer the services to University Hospital Galway but the authorities say they are to press ahead with the move.
On Friday night some 3,000 people took part in a protest march and rally in Sligo.
The Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland (CFAI) is preparing for its fourth annual conference later this month which will feature both expert speakers and those living with the condition.
Dr Philip Farrell, a world leading expert on CF, and Lisa Greene a mother of two children with the condition who has written on the subject will address the event.
The conference is to run from Friday April 24th to April 26th in the Rochestown Park Hotel in Douglas, Cork.
