Ireland is a great country. Our people have an instinctive sense of fair play. However we are at a crossroads. People have lost confidence in the government. It is now time for a change of policies and direction. This presents a challenge to political leadership and an opportunity for society.
We need a politics of hope and shared purpose. We need a plan for social and economic recovery and renewal.
This plan needs to deliver economic growth and social equality in equal measure. It must have the well-being of all as its goal.
It must focus on job retention and creation;, investment in public services, progressive and sustainable public finances, and promoting environmental sustainability.
It is time for an alternative to the politics of greed, waste and corruption that have been characteristic of governments in this country for far too long.
It is also time to stand united in defence of the peace process.
Ireland needs a united, progressive and democratic movement for change. Sinn Féin is ready to join with those who seek this real political alternative.
Change won't come by replacing a failed Fianna Fáil-led government with a Fine Gael-led coalition. We need more than just new faces at the cabinet table.
It is time for a new alliance for change.
