THE eldest victim of the Roscommon 'House of Horrors' incest case has said his five siblings are angry that many other charges against their parents were never proceeded with.
In an interview with the Sunday Tribune, the 20-year-old – who suffered extreme sexual and physical abuse at the hands of his father – said the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) never explained why many of their complaints never made it to court.
Speaking of his brothers and sisters' progress, he said: "They are getting on well but they were very disappointed that their own charges [against their parents] were dropped. They will find it a lot harder to move on."
The man's father was recently convicted of multiple counts of rape and sexual abuse against him and sentenced to 14 years in prison. In January last year, his mother was convicted of incest against another son and neglect of the children.
Despite the disturbing evidence that came to light during both trials, much about the children's horrific experience was never revealed.
"There was a lot that didn't come out in court," the man said during an interview not far from where he and his siblings were systematically abused. "There was one time when my younger brother had done something bad and [my mother] poured boiling oil over his head. He had no hair for a long time."
He remains concerned that much of the abuse was not prosecuted. "I don't think it should just be 'no' [that there were no charges]; I think there should be some sort of reason."
