AN 18-month-old boy was in a critical condition in Beaumont Hospital after he fell from the window of a second-storey apartment in Galway yesterday.

The incident was being treated as a tragic accident by gardaí. The baby fell from the window at Lydon Court on Rosemary Avenue in the city centre at 9.45am.

After the emergency services were alerted, it was immediately decided to transfer the boy to Beaumont as he had suffered serious head injuries.

He was in an extremely critical condition yesterday evening and it was expected that he would undergo an emergency operation upon his arrival at the hospital.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses who were in the area at the time of the incident.
