Kylian Mbappé of France has strongly criticized a Paraguayan senator after she made racist comments directed at him. His decisive penalty helped secure a 1-0 victory for France over Paraguay in Philadelphia on Saturday, allowing the team to move on to the quarter-finals.
Senator Celeste Amarilla took to X to unleash a vitriolic attack, referring to Mbappé as a “colonised Cameroonian, desperately trying to pass himself off as French” and labeling him a “brute who had not learned to write” She even suggested that Paraguay’s players should have confronted him physically post-match.
In a powerful rebuttal, Mbappé, who captains the French team, expressed his discontent not only for himself but also for the Paraguayan players.
“Madame Celeste Amarilla, you are a despicable woman and unworthy of your position. You do not represent Paraguay, that country which has sweated passion and honour throughout the competition,”
He continued, stating,
“Through your recklessness and your brazen racism, the entire world has already forgotten the journey and the historic effort that your players accomplished during this World Cup, making way for an incompetent woman who gives the worst possible image of her country. I will never allow people like her the freedom to spread their hatred and racism across the world.“ The French Football Federation (FFF) escalated the matter, announcing plans to file criminal charges, describing her remarks as “utterly abhorrent and unacceptable”
“These remarks are criminal and reprehensible. They must be prosecuted here as elsewhere. The FFF is reporting the matter to the public prosecutor’s office with a view to legal proceedings.”
They also emphasized that such comments bring disgrace to both the speaker and those who share her views, insisting that the French national team symbolizes the country, which is being insulted through these derogatory statements.
