Fashion - That '70s show

You might already have a pussycat bow blouse, but 2011 really is the year to go all out 1970s style. It's one of the biggest fashion stories this year, as seen at Chloe, Pucci and Gucci. Theatre - Play date

If one of your new year's resolutions is to become a more cultured individual, whose interests extent beyond EastEnders and which member of Take That has aged the best, theatre is always a good bet. You can ease yourself into it by going to Arrah-Na-Pogue, which is running in the Abbey until 5 February, and it's great fun. Directed by Mikel Murphy, with a cast that includes Rory Nolan, Jack Walsh and Mary O'Driscoll, this is a tale of love and misadventure at its finest.

Kitchen - Ready, steady, stand

So now that you're the proud owner of a copy of Jamie's 30-Minute Meals (you and the rest of the nation), what you now need is a recipe book stand. Anna Sui, feted for her boho-chic designs and baby doll dresses, has brought out a book celebrating the 20th anniversary of her label. Home and so to bed

The temptation to take to your bed for most of January is great. If this is in fact your game plan, you should do it as stylishly as possible. Debenhams' new spring/summer linen collection (due in store later in the month) has some very chic offerings, and the Ben de Lisi flash bed linen duvet cover set (€68) is especially lovely. He's also bringing back his dog cushions for the second year (€30) which can almost be considered a design classic at this stage.
