Archbishop Diarmuid Martin painted a shocking picture of the state of the church recently in his homily in the Pro Cathedral. In effect the church seems to be dying out in Ireland.
For God's sake, for the sake of God's church, let's do something to counteract this crisis. Radical measures have to be taken to save Ireland economically. Radical measures need also to be taken to save the church.
What is needed is a national conference of bishops, representative people, religious and priests to debate and plan for a revitalisation of the church.
We have great resources in the personnel of the church, not just bishops, priests and religious but also the committed people. After all, the church is the people of God.
Let's tap into the wisdom and zeal of all with God's guidance to explore the faults and failures and provide guidance and obligatory regulations to make the church again the church that Jesus wants for His people.

Well yes.. I have noticed a big change in peoples attitude, they feel betrayed, particularly the over 50 group, who all their lives believed & trusted the bishops & priests. & now in most cases the bishops are not accountable for their management of sexual abusers, our cardinal was complicit in a cover up, & refused to go. Who would want to share their faith with such people.I notice that parents of grown up children, now stay away, there is now no importance attached to going to church, its not a priority with families. Fr. Con. one thing I hold dear, & it will never leave me is my faith in the existence of God, how I relate to this God is my responsibility, church going is not necessarily a must, when I see all the money & benefits that are extracted from the state from people in high places, who are church goers, it makes me shudder. I wonder now what is sin & what is not, & how does one resolve this when such greed has brought our country to its knees. When we see a government cutting welfare for the vulnerable, & claiming expenses of over 3000Euro monthly in addition to their salaries its obscene & immoral. To date not a word from the church, about the disaster Ireland has become. The pensioners, students, vulnerable, are demonstrating not a word from the church, no reference to the inflated salaries that td's give themselves. So while the good bishop paints a shocking picture of the state of the church, he should also devote a slot to the state of the economy & its managers.
