RTÉ has located the source of an email which told a man searching for a job on digital radio station Pulse to "go f**k" himself.
DJ Tom O'Connor claimed he received the email after enquiring on the RTÉ Radio Pulse Facebook page about the possibility of presenting his own slot on the station.
The 28-year-old DJ, who is also the director of a data back-up firm, complained to management and an investigation was launched into the incident last week.
According to a source at the station, management sent out an email last week demanding that the source of the email own up to the message.
"We do know that someone has owned up and it is being resolved, but there is no talk yet as to what the disciplinary procedure will be. An email was sent out demanding that whoever had sent the message out from the Pulse Radio page own up immediately.
"It was also said that if they did not, RTÉ would get the IT department involved to track the individual down. Clearly, whoever was to blame decided it was best to just own up."
The source also says members of the broadcasting team were shocked by the message.
"It was simpler that the person own up rather than dragging the whole IT department over to investigate. But at the end of the day, most of us in the station are seriously shocked at this. We are all in this to get ourselves a good name, rather than get publicity like this.
"We are not FM and are trying to establish ourselves so we are all hoping it is completely resolved as soon as possible."
A spokesman for the station said they are still investigating the matter and treating it "extremely seriously".
"The internal investigation is in progress. Naturally, RTÉ Radio is taking this matter extremely seriously. Until such time as all the facts are established there will be no further comment on the details of the investigation as it takes place."
RTÉ Pulse is a digital electronic dance music station which currently has over 30 different shows and presenters. It was launched in 2008 along with a number of other digital stations including RTÉ Junior and RTÉ Chill.
"RTÉ job-seeker gets email telling him to 'go f**k' himself"
God lads do some proper research. It was over a facebook chat. Who in there right mind tenders a job application over facebook chat at 3 in the morning. Ah Tom O' Connor. It makes sense now. Fair play RTE. Last thing you want is a convicted hacker in the rte servers. There's far more to this than meets the eye.
