Higher than usual levels of the legionella bacteria have been detected in water samples at Naas general hospital, a HSE spokeswoman has confirmed.

The discovery of the bacteria, which can cause Legionnaire's disease, occurred during routine testing of water samples. The spokeswoman said it was limited to one 12-person ward. None of the patients were required to be moved and the ward remains open while preventive measures are being taken.
