A 31-year-old man was in garda custody in Cork yesterday in connection with the killing of a man in his mid to late 20s. It is understood the dead man is 25-year-old Lee McCarthy originally from London. He was found stabbed to death in a shed at the rear of a terraced house in Gurranabraher in the city.


Gardaí in Gurranabraher received a phone call at 6.40am yesterday and went to a house at St Rita's Avenue where they discovered the dead body. The man did not live at the house. It is understood he died from a single stab wound.


The area where his body was discovered was cordoned off and the scene was preserved for a technical examination.
