AFTER just 11 months, the successful free bike scheme run by Dublin City Council is about to mark its one millionth trip.
It is a master stroke for the local authorities whose ambition of securing 2,000 members in the first year has already been far surpassed, with some 37,000 people now having signed up to avail of free bike transport around the city.
Plans are now afoot to expand the popular drive further out of the city centre with additional bike ranks.
Cllr Andrew Montague, who initially proposed the idea, said: "I never imagined it would be this popular.
"It's my ambition to see Dublin Bike stations dotted right across the city – even out into the suburbs."
