A Dublin man was shot dead last night in a gangland shooting near his home in Finglas.
Daniel Gaynor (24), with an address at Berryfield Drive in Finglas, was shot dead at approximately 6:55pm yesterday evening at Barnamore Crescent in Finglas.
It is believed that Gaynor was shot in retaliation for the murder of 34-year-old Colm (Collie) Owens in July this year. Owens was a close criminal associate of 34-year-old gangland boss Eamon Dunne, who was shot dead in a public house in Cabra in April.
It is understood Gaynor initially survived the attack but he died sometime later in the Mater Hospital.
In 2005 Gaynor, who had a number of previous convictions, received a six-year sentence after he fired a gun through the window of a house because one of its occupants was late repaying him a €100 loan.
Aged 18 at the time, Gaynor pleaded guilty to causing reckless endangerment creating substantial risk of death or serious harm to the occupants of a house on Dunsink Drive, Finglas in February 2004.
He also pleaded guilty to possession of a sawn-off shotgun, which gardaí found at his address along with a balaclava and spent shotgun cartridges.
