A cosmetics company has criticised the recent 'Ultimate Girls Day Out' show in Dublin's RDS after a lack of security allowed criminals posing in high-vis jackets to steal thousands of euro worth of stock.
Crown Brushes, a leading supplier in make-up brushes, is furious that security was not provided and that criminals were able to make four trips in and out of the RDS premises in Dublin to clean them out.
"We do lots of these shows and there is always security and in the contract that we signed they said there would be security from the start of the show to the end of the show," David Jones, who was at the event with his company, said.
The three-day show, pitched as "a pampering fashion and beauty event like no other", took place last weekend and was launched by former TV3 presenter Lorraine Keane. The Crown Brushes area was raided by two thieves once staff had left to assist with another set-up on Thursday 26 August.
Security footage shows one man wearing a baseball hat and high visibility jacket climbing under the stall and removing boxes of expensive products.
He then loaded them onto a cart which was wheeled in and out of the room by an accomplice four times.
"We know there was no security in the build-up to the show – it wasn't paid for," said Jones.
He praised the general standard of events held at the venue saying they were among the best-run shows around but on this occasion a lack of safeguards was at fault.
"I expect a company that is producing a show to put on security to stop people," he said.
"If someone walks out with 15 boxes you ask questions because [during the set-up] you are taking stuff in not bringing stuff out."
A spokeswoman for the RDS said it was usually down to individual event organisers to plan the entire proceedings including the provision of security guards.
Harmonia, the company behind the event, confirmed that an incident had taken place and was being investigated by gardaí. It was unable to clarify the situation regarding security.
