House fires - Woman dies in apartment blaze


A 29-year-old woman died in an apartment fire in the early hours of yesterday morning. The blaze broke out in the apartment in the Grenville Street area of Dublin's north inner city and the alarm was raised at about 1.30am.


Elsewhere, a 93-year-old woman was seriously injured in a house fire in Donnybrook in Dublin. The woman was taken to St Vincent's Hospital where her condition was said to be serious.


Business - Boylesports to take over 17 Celtic shops


Boylesports has announced its intention to take over 17 betting shops belonging to the former Celtic Bookmakers, safeguarding the future of up to 100 jobs. The acquisition will bring to 158 the number of shops operated by the company in Ireland.


Politics - FG'will reverse' cut in minimum wage


A Fine Gael government will reverse the minimum wage cut imposed in the Budget, according to finance spokesman, Michael Noonan. Noonan and leader Enda Kenny raised the matter at a meeting in Brussels on Friday with commission president Jose Manuel Barroso.
