Amanda Knox broke down in tears yesterday as she made an emotional appeal against her conviction for the murder of her British roommate Meredith Kercher, saying she was the innocent victim of an "enormous mistake".
Knox (23), who is serving 26 years for the murder, told an appeal court in Perugia she is not the "dangerous, diabolical, uncaring, violent" person described by the prosecution.
Last year, the American student, known as Foxy Knoxy, was found guilty of killing Kercher (21), after what prosecutors claimed was a sex game taken to the extreme. Her Italian ex-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, was also found guilty and sentenced to 25 years.
During an emotional 20-minute plea, Knox said she had been "broken" by three years in jail.
Speaking in Italian, she said: "I am innocent. Raffaele is innocent. We did not kill Meredith. It doesn't do justice to Meredith and her loved ones to take our lives from us."
