Tunisia dismisses Sabri Lamouchi following heavy World Cup defeat to Sweden

Tunisia sack Sabri Lamouchi one game into World Cup after 5-1 defeat by Sweden

Tunisia has parted ways with head coach Sabri Lamouchi just one game into the World Cup, following a disappointing 5-1 loss to Sweden. The Tunisian football federation announced his removal via an Instagram post.

“An agreement has been officially reached to dismiss coach Sabri Lamouchi,” read the statement. “Plans are under way ‌to appoint ‌Mondher Kebaier as the national team ‌coach [on an interim basis].”

The Tunisian squad is set to face Japan this Saturday in the same venue in Guadalupe where they suffered their recent defeat, before concluding their group stage matches against the Netherlands in Kansas City.

Lamouchi, 54, was appointed in January but faced criticism after a heavy 5-0 defeat to Belgium in a pre-tournament friendly held in Brussels.

The French coach previously led Côte d’Ivoire during the 2014 World Cup but was unable to guide the team past the group stage in Brazil.
