Animal hunting may lead to desire to harm humans

In the tsunami of print devoted to the release of convicted rapist Larry Murphy, one less explored aspect was the fact that he was an avid animal hunter. Were the skills of stalking and killing honed until he felt ready to switch to a live target?

The link between animal and human abuse is well established. We need to deal with the fact that those who kill animals for fun have a serious medically untreated mental illness. The urge to torture and kill animals for fun is no more normal than the desire to inflict physical, mental and sexual abuse on a human victim.

My God, to associate any person who enjoys hunting for food as a nut case with a mental illness is a the same as saying anyone who flys' airplanes as a hobby is a potential suicide bomber.

Mr. Tierney your rants never cease to amaze me but this one takes the biscuit.

We? Speak for yourself and do not include me in your diatribe of verbal diahorrea. What DOCTOR/SPECIALIST/NEUROLOGIST/PSYCHIATRIST has backed up your sweeping statement? I'd like to see it if you don't mind.

Tribune - I'm DISGUSTED by you allowing this kind of publication in your newspaper. Such broad sweeping statements show the ignorance of John Tierney's writings.

How dare he and you (Tribune) by way of printing it - assume to tar me with the same brush as those who hurt/torture animals for fun.

Hunters hunt for food or vermin control or as requested for a cull. NOT FOR FUN!

Mr. Tierney, "Were the skills of stalking and killing honed until he felt ready to switch to a live target?" in case you haven't noticed animals are also "Live" before they are killed or have you forgotten that the purpose of your organisation is to save the lives of animals or have you replaced it with sabotaging the activities of citizens of this state pursuing legal hunting activities.

It was in fact hunters who came upon Murphy as he was in the process of committing his last crime. Had it not been for those hunters Larry Murphy would have continued on his raping spree.

I fail to see how you can draw comparisons between hunters and rapists like Larry Murphy. Hunters kill as quickly and cleanly as possible and only take what they need from the land. There is a certain amount of satisfaction from a good hunt and a clean kill. But Larry Murphy was/is a sadist he got his satisfaction from torturing another human being.
