In spite of having just one female presenter daily, RTÉ fares better than other stations in terms of gender equality, although female radio presenters continue to become a more and more endangered species. The latest female presenter to leave the airwaves is 2fm's Nikki Hayes, leaving Jenny Huston holding for the fort for women on 2fm all week until Jenny Greene's mammoth three-hour slot on Friday evenings.
On the new weekend schedule, Lucy Kennedy and Ruth Scott add to the station's low female tally, although both co-present with men. Less than 10% of 2fm's programming Monday to Friday is presented by a female presenter. 2XM will broadcast for two hours every Sunday on 2fm. The digital station is currently leading the way with female-presented music programming. Presenters include Edel Coffey, Aoife Barry, Jenny Mulligan, Paula Flynn and Aoife Mc.
